AFTER reading Variety’s May 28 article on metformin sold as Glocophage that controls blood sugar levels, I wondered if it is the same as the one I take daily called Glyburide. I wasn’t sure so, I called PHI and a nice man answered the phone. I asked if Glyburide was in anyway close to Glocophage or metformin and he said “no.” He was also nice enough to say that it was old news that the drug metformin has side effects. He kindly added that Rep. Stanley T. Torres was making a big deal out of it.
Well, my friend at PHI, first of all, it’s not old news to me and/or anyone out there who doesn’t know. Early last year, I found out I have diabetes. Just recently, I learned about the drug and the side effects. Second, I consider myself lucky that someone is making a big deal out of it.
And finally, my friend at PHI, please be mindful of who you talk to on the phone. You don’t know my name, but you gave me yours. Never mind that Rep. Stanley T. Torres is my father, but mind me and others that are also diabetics. I want to die old not young. My father does not know all the details of my illness, but thanks to him making such a big deal out of it I know more for my sake.
Next week, on June 6, my doctor better be ready because I have a lot of questions to ask.
Thank you Rep. Stanley T. Torres for making such a big deal. I owe you a Father’s Day dinner. And thank you Steve for your help (?). Have a nice day.CHARLES C. TORRES
