‘The seeds of dishonesty’

“Thank you judges—however, your opinion doesn’t count!”

That is according to the Marianas High School science teachers who organized the “islandwide science fair” event.

After inviting respected, educated members of our community to judge the science fair at MHS, the judges scored their marks, tallied their sheets, were thanked, and then went home. Unbeknownst to them the MHS teachers then took the tally sheets and changed the scores the judges had given, so that instead of Kagman High School students receiving the top honors as the scores would show, the MHS students received the top honors.

Now all is fair in love and war, but are we not in it for the children and would that not deprive them of fairness. Pity those who believe that they were there to judge when others have already done so.

Let us not sow the seeds of dishonesty and unfairness into our children as the teachers of MHS that organized this years fair have.

Instead, let us believe that all students are capable and competent winners in all they do, and that we value our invited guests’ opinions as we would our own.JAMES FAULS
