WASHINGTON, D.C.  — U.S. Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds announced that four of her Community Project Funding or CPF requests have been included in House appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2026, bringing about $5.5 million in direct federal support to the Northern Mariana Islands.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development approved $2 million for the Commonwealth Department of Public Works to continue work on Route 36 (Chalan Kalabera), supporting access and resiliency improvements to this key Saipan project.

Additionally, the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture approved three CNMI projects totaling $3,464,000. These include $1.464 million for the Office of the Mayor of Saipan to acquire heavy equipment to improve village maintenance and disaster response, $1 million for the Tinian Mayor’s Office to support water infrastructure for homestead expansion in Marpo Heights, and $1 million in additional funding for the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation’s medical supplies warehouse.

“At a time when federal spending is under scrutiny, our ability to secure funding for these critical investments speaks to the strength of our project submissions and the urgency of the needs in our islands,” said Congresswoman King-Hinds. “Each of these projects reflects priorities from our community — improving infrastructure, expanding public services, and ensuring access to reliable healthcare.”

She emphasized the importance of collaboration in securing these wins. Her office worked closely with the requesting agencies to shape proposals that demonstrated strong community support and clear public benefit.

“This is what partnership looks like,” King-Hinds added. “I’m grateful to the mayors, CHCC, and the Department of Public Works for the work they put into these projects. Together, we’re ensuring federal resources reach the people and communities who need them most.”

These projects represent the first round of CPF wins of  King-Hinds’s term, and more programmatic resources are expected as additional subcommittee bills are released in the coming weeks.

The next step will be passage of the appropriations packages by the House of Representatives, followed by negotiations with the Senate.

“We still have work ahead to get these funds across the finish line,” said King-Hinds. “But I am proud of what we’ve already accomplished and will keep working to bring resources home to the Marianas.”
