Volunteers with PDM Promoters Inc., Kinpachi Restaurant and the Saipan Awaodori Team conducted their monthly cleanup in the Garapan tourism district on Saturday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It was a rainy day, but that didn’t stop the volunteers from picking up trash and trimming vegetation in an area that included Paseo de Marianas, Coral Tree Avenue, portions of Micro Beach Road and connecting alleys. The volunteers collected a total of 1,540 lbs of trash. “Because of Covid-19, we saw an increase in single-use plastics, masks and gloves among the trash, and we also found piles of trash between buildings of certain business establishments,” said Sonia G. Siwa, coordinator of PDM Promoters Inc./Kinpachi Restaurant. “We are asking for the cooperation of businesses. Please use your trash bins for trash disposal. We also encourage members of the public to pick up litter while they’re walking. Let’s all help maintain the island’s cleanliness and protect its environment,” Siwa added.
