TASI To Table is working hard to make sure that the first-ever Tuna Mix Classic, which will kick off this coming Saturday, will be a memorable event, TTT vice president Wayne Pangelinan said.
“TTT has been watching the weather and it is looking perfect,” he added. “The preparations take months in advance to ensure we leave no stone unturned. Each member, advisor and volunteer will have a role to play at the event. As the tournament draws nearer, we are elated to say we are ready!”
Pangelinan said they have already obtained the necessary permits from regulatory agencies, and the backboard and banner placement should to be done on Friday with GR Construction’s support.
He said TTT is also grateful to UR Rentals which will provide canopies and tables; the office of Rep. Leila Staffler for the porta potties; Fishing Tackle and Sporting Goods for sponsoring gift certificate prizes; and the Bank of Saipan and Pacific Trading Co. for sponsoring the $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 prizes for first, second and third places.
“In any event we hold that involves fishing, safety is top priority,” Pangelinan said. “We anticipate a good number of anglers participating in the event and we look forward to everyone’s safe return. Hence, DPS-Boating Safety is on board that day to ensure our anglers’ safety.”
Pangelinan said through fishing events, TTT students learn a lot about event coordination, organizing, marketing and promotions.
“Our purpose as TTT is to give that edge to our students who may find themselves in the marine field of study or who are considering possible career paths involving marine study, marketing, coordinating events/activities to name a few,” Pangelinan said.
“With the support of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, the Public School System, government agencies and non-government offices, the students learn about our environment, their mental health, boating safety and water quality. And soon, with Micronesian Environmental Services’ help, they will also learn about fish species and more.”
As for the anglers who will participate in the Tuna Mix Classic, “we wish them all the best of luck and look forward to recognizing the champion of this year’s event!” Pangelinan said as he also thanked the following sponsors: Heineken/Pacific Trading Co., Roil Soil Clothing for designing the fishing shirts, and 4EVER CNMI for the locally made trophies.
TTT conducts an eight-month youth program for Public School System students who earn elective credits for completing it.
