THE Bears continue to hold on to a top-five spot in the leaderboards of the 2025 Saipan Baseball League after collecting their third win of the season with a 7-4 victory over the Blue Jays on Monday night at Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

The Blue Jays opened the game strong with a 2-3 pickoff for the first out of the inning, but the Bears quickly recovered. Dennis Cabrera connected for a single, stole second base, and later advanced to third, setting up a scoring opportunity assisted by J-Boy Mendiola’s single.

Cabrera was then brought home via a sacrifice fly by designated hitter JJ Lizama, drawing first blood before the Bears were handed three outs.

The Blue Jays equalized in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a Bears error that allowed their leadoff batter, Henry Lizama, to score on a passed ball, tying the game at 1-1.

For the next two innings, both teams exchanged hits but failed to round the bases.

In the top of the fourth, the Bears broke the silence with a six-run rally, fueled by Lizama’s two-RBI single and RBI singles from JD Magofna, Henry Lizama, Dennis Cabrera, and Austin Hocog, giving them a 7-1 lead.

Though the Blue Jays shut down the Bears over the next three innings, they struggled offensively as well.

Still, the Blue Jays showed signs of life in the bottom of the seventh and final inning. Nate Sablan’s double brought in two runs — Frankie Lieto and Mark Villagomez — and Sablan himself was later driven in by Don Fejeran’s RBI single to cut the deficit.

Despite two more runners advancing, Bears pitcher JJ Lizama secured the final out, denying the Blue Jays’ comeback attempt and sealing the 7-4 win.
