SUVA (Fiji Times/Pacnews) — Fiji has recorded1,100 new cases of Covid-19 and 13 deaths Monday increasing the total number of cases to 31,443 cases since the outbreak that started in April.
Health and Medical Services permanent secretary Dr. James Fong said 386 cases were from the Western division and 714 cases from the Central division in Vitilevu, Fiji’s main island.
Fong said the 13 deaths were recorded during the period from July 29 to Aug. 1, 2021.
He said the first Covid-19 death was a 79-year-old not fully vaccinated man from Rewa who died at home on Aug. 1.
Fong said the second Covid-19 death is a 48-year-old man from Nepani who was presented to the CWM Hospital emergency department in severe respiratory distress.
“His condition worsened at the hospital and he died on the same day, July 31. He received the first dose of the vaccine in early June. He did not receive the second dose of the vaccine. This means that he was not fully vaccinated,” Fong said.
He said the third Covid-19 death was an unvaccinated 67-year-old man from Lami who died at home on July 31.
Fong said the fourth Covid-19 death was also an unvaccinated 69-year-old man from Suva who died at home on 30 July.
He said the fifth Covid-19 death was a 44-year-old woman from Lami.
“She presented to a medical facility in severe respiratory distress. A medical team retrieved her from the medical facility and brought her to the CWM hospital. Her condition worsened in the hospital and she died two days after admission on July 30. She was not vaccinated,” Fong said.
“The sixth Covid-19 death to report is a 55-year-old woman from Lautoka. She presented to the Lautoka Hospital in severe respiratory distress. Her condition worsened in the hospital and she died six days after admission on August 1. She was not vaccinated,” Fong said.
“The seventh Covid-19 death to report is a 39-year-old woman from Lautoka. She presented to the Lautoka Hospital in severe respiratory distress. Her condition worsened in the hospital and she died 8 days after admission on Aug. 1. She was not vaccinated,” he added.
“The eighth Covid-19 death to report is a 53-year-old woman from Nadi. She presented to the Nadi Hospital in severe respiratory distress. Her condition worsened in the hospital and she died one day after admission on Aug. 1. She was not vaccinated.
“The ninth Covid-19 death to report is a 55-year-old woman from Lautoka. She presented to the Lautoka Hospital in severe respiratory distress. Her condition worsened in the hospital and she died two days after admission on Aug. 1. She was not vaccinated.
“The tenth Covid-19 death to report is an 81-year-old woman from Sigatoka. She presented to the Sigatoka Hospital in severe respiratory distress. Her condition worsened in the hospital and she died three days after admission on July 31. She was not vaccinated.
“The eleventh Covid-19 death to report is a 90-year-old man from Sigatoka who died at home on July 29. He was not vaccinated.
“The twelfth Covid-19 death to report is a 77-year-old woman from Tamavua. She presented to the FEMAT field hospital in severe respiratory distress. A medical team retrieved her from the FEMAT field
