Don Sanchez pleads not guilty to drug trafficking, other charges

DON Jr. Pangelinan Sanchez has pleaded not guilty to the charges of receiving stolen property, firearms owner’s identification requirement, removal of a firearms serial number, possession of a controlled substance, and drug trafficking.

Sanchez appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Wednesday afternoon in the custody of the Department of Corrections and was represented by court-appointed attorney Janet King.

Judge Camacho scheduled a status hearing for July 13 before Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo, and maintained the previously imposed $100,000 cash bail on Sanchez.

King, for her part, asked the court to direct the government to provide discovery to the defense.

Assistant Attorney General Chester Hinds, the prosecutor, did not object.

On Feb. 18, 2021, police executed a search warrant on Sanchez’ residence where they found a  stolen generator, five clear Ziploc bags containing a crystalline substance, marijuana plants, marijuana in Ziploc bags, a small weighing scale, a glass pipe, a brown and silver .38 caliber revolver with the serial number removed from the barrel, and a large amount of money in a shoe box.

On April 13, 2021, the Department of Public Safety issued a notice that Sanchez was on the run from authorities and was wanted pursuant to an arrest warrant issued against him.

On May 24, 2021, DPS, acting on a tip, located Sanchez in Garapan and tried to arrest him, but he and another individual got into a car and tried to flee from the arresting officers.

The ensuing high-speed chase ended in Koblerville where the driver of the vehicle, John Carlo G. Sanchez, who is Don Sanchez’ cousin, was also arrested.
