THE Department of Public Works on Tuesday informed the House Ways and Means Committee that of the $15.6 million the Legislature appropriated for infrastructure projects for fiscal year 2021 there is $6.7 million left.
Also discussed during the budget hearing was the status of the local funds derived from poker fee collections, developers’ tax, the exclusive gaming license fee, casino gross revenue tax and bond interest earnings appropriated for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
DPW Technical Service Division Director Anthony A. Camacho submitted the local funds status record as of May 31, 2021.
It indicates that $7.6 million of the total appropriations had been expended for various infrastructure projects throughout the CNMI. The remaining $6.7 million, the report said, “is the amount subject to use for other projects as per Saipan local law appropriations, other project request or re-appropriation.”
The total amount of locally generated revenues appropriated for Precinct 1 is $2.9 million. Of this amount, over $1.3 million has been expended or obligated, with $1.3 million remaining for possible re-appropriation.
For Precinct 2, a total of $3.2 million in local funds have been appropriated: $1.1 million has been spent and $1.8 million is left.
For Precinct 3, more than $2 million was appropriated, but only $211,602 has been expended and the balance is $1.7 million.
For Precinct 4, more than $2 million has been appropriated: $537,137 has been expended and more than $1.4 million is left.
For Precinct 5, more than $4.3 million has been appropriated of which $3.5 million has been expended and $728,316 is left.
On Tinian, the $722,331 in casino gross revenue tax was appropriated: $573,130 has been expended and $149,201 is left.
