PeLeLiu beats Man Amigos to win softball championship

THE Man Amigos took game 1 in the best-of-three championship series, but PeLeLiu’s players fought their way back in games 2 and 3 to win the title Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.

In game two, the Man Amigos’ Mark Toves contributed a three-run homer at the bottom of the first  while Eric Palacios and Pete Sablan scored in the second inning to give  their team the lead, 7-5.

For their part, the PeLeLiu players started to heat up at the top of the third. Hit after the hit, the bases were filled with Cartfield Sablan reaching home plate while Ban Hacog connected a homerun to earn three RBIs that were followed by another homerun courtesy of Charlie Kenty. And just like that, PeLeLiu was in the lead, 10-7.

The Man Amigos returned fire in the next two innings with four runs while PeLeLiu  could squeeze in just one to tie the game, 11-11.

The Man Amigos scored two more runs at the bottom of the sixth inning with Jun Lizama connecting a single. During the play, PeLeLiu tried to gain an out but instead committed an error of bringing home Bill Aguon and Lizama as the Man Amigos seized the lead, 13-11.

PeLeLiu, however, continued to fight hard and was finally rewarded in the seventh and final inning with a three-run homer unleashed by Charlie Kenty, allowing Mabel Ngrigemelas and Ben Hocog to also round the bases and give their team the lead once again, 16-13.

With no answer from the Man Amigos at the bottom of the seventh, PeLeLiu won game two of the series to force a rubber match.
