THE Southern United Football Club pounded MP United FC 7-0 in Division B of the Dove Women’s League Spring 2021 Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.
Southern United’s defense was the key to its dominance as its players turned each successful stop into a quick offensive push.
After 10 minutes of shot attempts, the team’s Keisha Deleon Guerrero completed the transition play to give Southern United a 1-0 lead.
Deleon Guerrero’s goal acted as a spark plug as his team scored two more goals courtesy of Erin Frink at the 12th minute mark followed by Deleon Guerrero’s second goal a minute later to extend their team’s lead, 3-0.
MPU tried to build momentum but was held down to a few attempted shots due to Southern United’s continuous defensive pressure.
The second half remained in SUFC’s favor as it scored four more points.
SUFC notched two consecutive goals at the 35th and 36th minute marks provided by Megan Elayda while Keisha Deleon Guerrero completed the hat-trick by scoring two more goals at the 43rd and 48th minute marks for a 7-0 blowout victory.
It’s a draw
The other Division B game was between Shirley’s and TanHoldings which ended in a 3-3 draw.
TanHoldings was the first to draw blood at the 11th minute mark with Gillian Villagomez scoring a goal.
Two minutes later, Shirley’s Castillo tied the game, 1-1.
But TanHoldings’ teamwork and ball movement continued to create scoring options, allowing Jove Taman to penetrate enemy territory and score at the 21st minute mark to give her team a 2-1 lead before the end of the first half.
TanHoldings tried to seal the deal early by clinching its third goal at the 28th minute mark thanks to Sydney Hinds.
But Shirley’s players found their second wind with Castillo sinking her second goal within the same minute to stay in contention.
TanHoldings then focused on defense, hoping to fend off Shirley’s onslaught, but at the 39th minute mark, Castillo once again delivered another goal to tie the game, 3-3.
With neither team able to score the game-winning shot, the match ended in a draw.
