CUC says expenditures down by $2M in 2nd quarter of FY 2021

THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s expenditures went down by over $2 million in the second quarter of fiscal year 2021.

In his quarterly expenditure report to the Legislature, CUC acting Executive Director William B. Gilmore attached a spreadsheet indicating the corporation’s personnel and operations expenditures in the first and second quarters of FY 2021.

Section 303 of the FY 2021 Budget Act or Public Law 21-35 requires expenditure authorities to submit to the presiding officers of the Legislature, at the end of each quarter, a fund status report on the expenditures for personnel and operations of each government entity;  the payments of the public auditor’s fee for the quarter ended; and, if applicable, year-to-date totals as of the close of the reporting period.

The FY 2021 Budget Act approved CUC’s budget of $90,380,185 which is derived from the corporation’s own revenue.

Gilmore submitted his quarterly report to Speaker Edmund Villagomez and Senate President Jude Hofschneider last week.

According to the report, CUC spent $ 3.3 million on personnel, $10.8 million on operations and capital outlays, for a total of $14.2 million expenses in the second quarter of FY 2021, ending March 31, 2021.

This is over $2 million less than CUC’s expenditure in the first quarter, ending Dec. 31, 2020, during which CUC spent $4 million on personnel and $12 million on operations.

To date, the report said, CUC has spent a total of $30.2 million in the first half of the fiscal year, $7.4 million of which went to personnel and $22.8 to operations and capital overlays, which include machineries and equipment.
