Weightlifting championships set for March 27

(CNMI Weightlifting) — This coming Saturday, March 27, 2021, the Second Marianas Cup Weightlifting Championships will take place at the multi-purpose center in Susupe to determine the strongest men and women in the Marianas.

Due to the issues with the Covid pandemic, this will be the first locally organized weightlifting event since the successful inaugural Northern Marianas Cup held in February 2020.

Last year’s event saw 15 men and two women compete for 14 medals in seven weight classes. CNMI Weightlifting is anticipating an even larger event this year, according to federation president John Davis. This year’s affair promises to be just as exciting with four women and 12 male athletes scheduled to compete.

Weigh-in begins at 9 a.m. at the multi-purpose center; the weightlifting contest starts at 10 a.m.  Admission is $10 per person, 12 years old and older;  $5 per person, 11 years and under,  and babes in arms are free.

The public is reminded that all CNMI Covid-19 Task Force preventative measures and directives will be strictly enforced.
