DFEMS responds to near drowning incident

THE Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel rushed a 56-year-old woman to the hospital Thursday morning after she was found by other swimmers facedown in the lagoon near a WWII tank.

DFEMS acting search and rescue commander Robert Camacho said, “The woman is currently in intubation.”

He said DFEMS received the call about the near drowning incident at 7:11 a.m., and medics from the Susupe fire station arrived at the scene five minutes later.

Camacho said the first responders saw other swimmers performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim.

He said he learned that the woman was part of a group that went swimming early in the morning.

One of her companions said on their way back from the shore, they noticed that the victim was facedown in the water and not moving.

They then brought her to the shore and administered CPR on the victim.

Camacho said the medics continued performing CPR on the way to the hospital.
