New Covid-19 case

A NEWLY arrived passenger has tested positive for Covid-19, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. stated Thursday.

This brings the CNMI’s total Covid-19 cases to 134 since March 28, 2020.

CHCC said the latest case was identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through testing upon arrival at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.

The individual has been safely in quarantine and has been moved to the designated isolation area for close monitoring, CHCC said, adding that it has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed case, including passengers on the same flight.

CHCC said one person is in isolation while 135 have been released from isolation per CHCC and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention medical guidelines. There were two deaths in March and April 2020.

CHCC said of the total cases in the CNMI, 108 have been diagnosed through travel screening, 11 through community testing and 16 through contact tracing.

On Guam, the Joint Information Center reported that three new cases of Covid-19 were identified out of 533 tests performed on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

“To date,” JIC stated Thursday, “there have been a total of 7,686 officially reported cases of Covid-19 with 130 deaths, 89 cases in active isolation, and 7,467 not in active isolation.”
