Brilliant Star School celebrates Chinese New Year

(Press Release) — With red lanterns swirling around entryways, handmade red good luck signs pasted everywhere, and bright red clothing running around the campus, it is hard to miss the fact that Brilliant Star Montessori School celebrated Chinese Lunar New Years this past week.

Mandarin is Brilliant Star School’s second language and is taught in every classroom from infant to 12 years old.

Students were especially busy last week decorating their classrooms for the New Year and learning how to draw traditional Chinese characters with calligraphy brushes to hang on the windows.

By lunchtime on New Year’s Eve, the whole campus smelled like fresh dumplings which were hand made by each class.

“It is nice to be able to keep many of our [school] traditions alive through this year and also continue to educate our island’s children,” upper elementary teacher Lindsay Davis expressed.

Indeed, a sense of normalcy is important for children in these uncertain times and Brilliant Star School aims to continue providing high quality, culturally sensitive, child-centered education to its students.

Let us hope that the Year of the Ox brings us all more dependability, peace, and forward movement than the year past.

Xīn nián kuài lè (Happy New Year)!
