Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona earlier sentenced Valdez, 39, to 90 days in jail without the possibility of parole or probation, but with credit for time served since Sept. 11, 2010.
Valdez, in a plea agreement, admitted the charge of illegal possession of a controlled substance. In return, the one count of trafficking, and two counts of “ice” possession filed against him were dismissed with prejudice by the court.
Valdez was also required to pay a $2,000 fine and a $100 court assessment fee payable within 30 days.
Manglona ordered Valdez to not possess any illegal firearms and to obey all federal and CNMI laws.
All contraband that was on his possession at the time of his arrest was also forfeited.
Valdez was represented by the Public Defender’s Office.
Police arrested Valdez last September on charges of trafficking and three counts of possession of “ice.”
A cooperating source told police that Valdez was an “ice” supplier.
After police purchased $100 worth of “ice” from Valdez through a cooperating source in Garapan on Aug. 2, 2010, he agreed to become a cooperating defendant.
On Aug. 20, 2010, authorities acted on a tip that two local men were smoking “ice” in the Dandan area near Ace Poker.
The individuals were later identified as Valdez and Ray Muna who told police that the “ice” belonged to Valdez who was then arrested.
