I am 71 years old and I have lived here since Jan. 1991. I have been associated with the island since I was stationed here with the Navy in 1960 and 1961. In Feb. of 1961 I married a young lady from the island. Her maiden name was Theresita Camacho Reyes.
If you want to know about me, talk to the workers from CUC who carried radios from 1991 till 2004. I am sure they will be glad to tell you about me.
Now for the business at hand. Governor Fitial desire to rejoin the Republican Party. If ever there was a self-serving individual, it is this governor. He lied and used our tax money to get reelected. Now that he has what he wants, he plans to dump the party that he started and go back to the Republican Party. Well my thoughts on this are very simple. If the Republican Party takes him back it is going to show the whole island that there is a lack of leadership and principals in their party. If it happens for the first time in my life I will vote Democratic.
Now on the CUC problem. The local government had proven beyond any doubt that they have no idea on how to run a utility. The residents are being taken to the cleaners money-wise and it is time to put a stop to it. The best way to stop it is for the residents to take control of the utility. The best way to do that is to form a co-op and take over the running and operation of our utility. I have done a lot of research about co-op utility companies and I am convinced that it is the thing for us to do. If we get organized and work together we can make it work. We will all be paying lower utility bills and we will keep control of our utility. Starting in January I want to go village to village and meet with the residents and explain to them how a co-op works and how it will help the island.
Next item. In my last letter I stated that I wanted to file a class action lawsuit against CUC for overcharging for water. Well I have over 30 signatures on a petition. Anyone who is having problems with their CUC water bills who want to join the lawsuit please contact me. I am presently trying to find a lawyer who will take the case on a contingency basis.
