Good turnout for first Autism Society Quiz Night

Event coordinator Jan Reyes said because of the good turnout, they are planning to hold a similar event next year, during the summer.

“The event was a success, thanks to the kindness of many people and organizations in the CNMI, especially Wayne Pangelinan and Saipan World Resort for being there for us and understanding our current situation, the members of ASCNMI, as well as the people who participated in the event,” Reyes said.

According to Tom Thornburg of ASCNMI, there have been many good comments in the community about the event.

Quiz Night aims to help ASCNMI raise funds for its programs and awareness campaigns for families who have members with autism and related disorders.

Each team was composed of seven members — five main contestants plus two substitutes — who competed in the trivia  game. Questions were about entertainment, culture, current events, academics, sports, autism-related issues and other subjects.

The fee per team of seven persons was $100, or $15 per individual. Various items were auctioned off during the event.

Team Familian Apaka got the highest score, 55, followed by NMPASI Posse  with 53. Ada’s Avalanche had 52 points, Team Alcantara garnered 47, Six Statesiders & a Coconut, 46, MHS-NHS, 45, HJHS-STUCO, 42, My Wave (2), 42, Rawr!, 41, The T, 41, My Wave (1), 39, and Hopwood Yap, 34.

The Autism Society of the CNMI conducts other programs to help not only individuals who are touched with autism but also those interested to learn about autism.
