‘Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader’

(Saipan Southern High School) — On Dec, 10, Saipan Southern High School’s Book Club hosted a screening for the fifth installment of the Narnia series: “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”

Over one hundred students went to this field-trip including 3rd grade students of Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary school.

Sudi Napalan, SSHS librarian, collaborated with SSHS language arts teachers Jonathan Aguon, Paul Muira, David Frahm and GTC’s 3rd grade teacher, Raena Bermudes.

Students read and dissected the book for three weeks then viewed the movie at the Hollywood Theaters on Friday morning.

Here’s what some students have to say:

“The film version of ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,’ I believe stuck to the book for the most part. I, nevertheless, thought the book was a lot better than the film version. With having the encouragement to read the book for both Book Club and English class, I discovered that there were several similarities and differences between the book and movie. The book was descriptive and distinct with its plot, which I found to be thorough yet amusing. The story’s plot was relevant to the film version with an abundance of action scenes, which was exciting to view as a motion picture. The film additionally had incredible sound effects that conveyed a thrill of exuberance to the audience. Overall, I thought the movie was well-kept, which I enjoyed very much.

“I would definitely recommend everyone to read ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,’ especially to those who relish a combination of adventure, courage and true friendship!” — Cindy Benavente, SSHS Freshman student

“I found the movie satisfactory. It wasn’t mind-blowing though the effects and suspense kept me entertained.

Surprisingly, the movie does not accurately represent the events in the book. Overall, I felt that the movie really rushed through the story and that the storyline of the book is much better. Nevertheless, book club’s movie tie-tins are a great way to get everyone raving about a book.” — Richie Xu, SSHS Junior student
