Manglona imposed on Rufino Masga Mendiola, 54, a one-year jail term, but all suspended except for 15 days and with credit for the five days he had already served.
Mendiola signed a plea agreement, and admitted committing assault and battery — a crime involving domestic violence.
Assistant Attorney General Russle Lorfing prosecuted the case while attorney J.P. San Nicolas served as counsel for Mendiola.
Manglona directed Mendiola to report to the Department Corrections to start serving the remainder of his sentence on Dec. 23, 2010.
Upon his release from prison, Mendiola will be placed on one-year probation.
Mendiola was required to pay a $1,000 fine, which will not to be replaced with community work service, a $25 court assessment fee within 30 days, and annual probation fee of $100.
Mendiola will complete a drug and alcohol program under the supervision of Adult Probation Office, and will not consume alcohol during his probation period.
Mendiola will stay away at least 100 yards from his victim Joan Villagomez, and will obey federal and CNMI laws.
An employee of the Tinian Department of Public Works, Mendiola punched his daughter for complaining that he was sexually harassing her female friend on June 18, 2010, police said.
Mendiola, while holding a machete, also threatened to kill the victims, police said.
