“We are very grateful that they responded to our appeal,” said Danilo Jacolbe, one of the residents in the area.
The DPW crew led by field operation manager Dennis Davis used a backhoe to remove the thick vegetation in the area.
“We were not able to respond immediately because we haven’t got any request,” David said.
The Jacolbe family requested the mayor’s office to cut down the trees in the area. The mayor’s office said it didn’t have a chainsaw.
Davis said they are working closely with CUC since they don’t have a boom truck that can be used to trim branches.
DPW, he said, has other projects to do besides clearing vegetation and cutting trees.
However, he said, the community can always request for DPW’s assistance if trees in an area are posing a danger to residents.
Davis was assisted by Albert Ramoket, Joey Castro and Ton Satur.
Ben Castro, DPW special assistant for operation, said they are also checking other areas.
Leroy Greenman, CUC foreman, said they have an agreement with DPW to work in tandem in clearing vegetation.
But, he said, their main concerns are trees near CUC power lines.
When a power line is affected not only one family but the whole island will suffer, he added.
Greenman was assisted by Ray Kitano, Bill Camacho, Jack Taitingfon, Jason Reyes and Anthony Heflin.
