An ICE official based on Saipan declined to comment and referred this reporter to their public affairs office in California.
Variety learned that five to six individuals were questioned in the area near the post office.
It was not clear if arrests were made.
Variety was told that some taxi operators were asked for their immigration papers.
The Department of Public Safety earlier launched a campaign against illegal taxicabs on island.
In Nov. 2009, the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested a former DPS detective on charges that he used his official position to demand and receive payments from arrested drivers of illegal taxicabs in exchange for dismissing their criminal cases and returning the seized vehicles.
Last August, a federal jury found him not guilty of the charges.
