Tinian Elementary School honors employees of the year

Maggie has been rewarded for her hard work, dedication, commitment to Tinian Elementary School by being nominated Support Staff of the Year in 1999, 2008, 2009.

She works well with people and works beyond the required number of hours to meet deadline and make sure that things are ready for the following school day.

She has assisted teachers by taking photographs of activities happening in the classroom and other events the school is celebrating.

She also assists by creating programs for functions and events for the school.

This year the school created the monthly Colts Express Newsletter and she is responsible for acquiring articles to be included in the newsletter and creating the newsletter to be distributed at the beginning of each month.

She also helps in the creation of class schedules, rosters, calendars, awards and other documents that may be needed.

Sarmiento is also responsible for getting information to and from the human resources office regarding teacher certification, verification, and other as requested by faculty and staff.

She is also wears the hat of registrar for our school.

Maggie has a lot on her plate but she is one who does not complain but is willing to go beyond the call of duty to make sure that our school runs smoothly in the administrative department.

Thanks Mags you are an asset to the Colts family.We would be lost without you.

Support Staff of the Year-Pupil Transportation

Victor Linan first joined the Public School System in February 2002 as a custodian.

A year later he was reclassified as a building maintenance.

Victor has held the bus driver position for about three years.

He is a hard worker.He goes out of his way to assist the teachers by providing man power when needed to move around tables, chairs, or other heavy objects.

He provides assistance whenever needed. He does work beyond what is required of him.

His hard work, dedication, and commitment to Tinian Elementary School has been acknowledge by the faculty and staff by nominating him three years in a row as the support staff of the year under the pupil transportation.

Congratulations Vic on your accomplishments.

Support Staff of the Year

Rodel Manlulu has been holding many roles under the maintenance division for PSS for 19 years.He first joined Tinian Elementary School back in March 1991 as a custodian.He then became building maintenance, driver, trade technician, and then was assigned maintenance supervisor in 2009.He has five people under his immediate supervision.

Rodel is an asset to Tinian Elementary School.He makes sure that the school buildings, grounds, buses, and vans are in working order and great condition.

He is very knowledgeable in regards to electrical, plumbing, and other duties that require him to maintain our campus.

He provides a safe and orderly school so that the students have a conducive environment for learning.

Teacher Aide of the Year

Teresita U. Sanchez who recently got married is now Mrs. Teresita S. Lazaro.Congratulations Terry on your recent nuptial.

She has been a teacher aide under the special education program for about 10 years at Tinian Elementary School.

She has assisted master teachers with students with disabilities. Her expertise is sign language.

Tinian Elementary School is very fortunate to have Terry be a part of the Colt family.

She is one of the few in our school who has the ability to sign and communicate with students who have a hearing impairment.

Her commitment to continue and pursue higher education has shown by her attainment of an associate degree in liberal arts in 2007 along with a certification in early childhood education and related service technician.

Terry has participated in numerous workshops and trainings to enhance her teaching strategies to be better equip to serve her students.

She continues to attend more training in SpEd and hopes to one day attain her bachelor’s degree and become a SpEd Teacher.

Teacher of the Year

Jennifer S. San Nicolas has been a teacher for Tinian Elementary School for the past nine years.She first joined PSS in Jan 2002 as a 5th grade teacher after returning home to Tinian after receiving her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Guam.

She taught 5th grade for three years before being assigned in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade teaching all content areas for the next five and a half years.

She has been bounced around from one grade level to another without any complaints.

She takes on the extra responsibility to ensure that the students she is assigned to and works with gets the best education from her.

She does this by constantly growing professionally to enhance her teaching abilities so that she is able to provide the strategies and skills needed at the different grade levels.

Jennifer S. San Nicolas is a very committed individual.She has coordinated and organized many school activities and after-school programs that promote student achievement through extra-curricular activities and tutorials.

At Tinian Elementary School she is a member and a facilitator for Project Familia, co-chair for the PE and Math committee, chairperson for the Science/Health committee, a representative of the Science Professional Learning Community, a member of the Leadership Team, a mentor under the Project Teacher Mentor Program, a member of the Focus Group for the Accreditation, and coordinator for the Youth Engaged in Advancing Health or YEAH.

Jennifer has also attended numerous professional developments to update herself of the most current research proven strategies and skills available to provide the very best education she can to her students.

She has met one of PSS’s strategic priorities and that is to become highly qualified and a better quality of a teacher.

She has also advanced herself through furthering her education by acquiring her master’s degree on international teaching from Framingham State College in February 2009.

Taking advantage to grow professional and personally shows San Nicolas’ commitment to her profession as an educator to continue learning.
