Down by 10 points in the first half, Dave Sablan and Wowie Abuel saved the Chow Queens with their explosive performance on the court. Sablan hammered a couple layups at first, pulling his team closer to the SIP – Mobils.
Mobil’s Jun Estolas, who had been leading the team since the start, tried to stop Sablan from his shooting spree.
Nearly losing the ball, Sablan snuck a side pass to teammate Abuel, who sent the crowd cheering with a three-pointer.
Energized, Sablan easily made his way past Estolas and Pando Muleta. The Chow Queens turned the game around in the third quarter, beating the Mobils by two points.
Chow Queen’s Kelvin Fitial and Banjo Basilla focused on the defense, boxing out Errol Peredo on Mobil’s side of the court. Jun Pantaleon intercepts the ball from Peredo and passes it to Abuel.
Scoring more baskets in the final quarter, Abuel and Sablan boosted their team’s morale. Estolas and Gil Gapor desperately shot three-pointers to catch up but failed.
Prior to the second half, the Mobils shortly had the upper hand. Their 29-22 lead in the second quarter didn’t last for long.
Chow Queen’s Kae Bernardo and coach Joey Siriban didn’t take part in the match due to their altercation with team Cavite last Saturday. The two however, will be making up their absence in Chow Queen’s championship match against the MAFEA – Ali’i Konflikts.
