Regent Paz C. Younis, committee chairwoman, said they have received several applications from on island and off-island candidates.
“At this point that’s all we can say,” she added.
Variety learned that one of the applicants is currently working at NMC.
Upon completion of the background checks, the applications will be reviewed further and the top candidates will be scheduled for interviews.
The committee was established in June to hire the replacement for Dr. Carmen Fernandez who was terminated in April.
Lorraine Cabrera is NMC’s current interim president.
