Geckos, Tsunamis soar to semifinals

The first of two single-elimination games featured the Geckos against the Mount Carmel School Knights, while the Tsunamis and Calvary Christian Academy Sharks played next.

The Geckos quickly finished the Knights in the first set, beating them by 26-16. Led by Ken Amog, the Knights fought back in the second set, but were defeated by the Geckos again by 25-23.

The Tsunamis and Sharks exchanged kills in the first set of their match, with CCA’s Christian Alamer dealing heavy spikes. A failed serve gave ball control to the Tsunamis, who easily gained lead. Winning by 25-20, they secured the first set.

Clashing their opponents at the net, the Sharks wouldn’t give up without a fight. Downward spikes gave the Tsunamis a quick five points, putting them ahead for the second time. The Sharks brought an 8-8 deadlock early in the second set, but lost again by 25-14.

Whispering Palms School will be challenging Grace Christian Academy today, and Marianas Baptist Academy is scheduled against Seventh Day Adventist School.

Whoever wins between the Geckos and Tsunamis on Thursday will earn the first ticket to COPSSA’s finals round on Friday.
