Bill to forfeit compensation of legislators awaits signature by Gov. Adachi

The monthly compensation to members of the KSL is $750 payable in equal installments on the 15th and 30th day of each month.

Pursuant to the LB No. 9-29 , amending the KSPL No. K5-85-97 stated that any member who is absent from three consecutive sessions or absent from any three out of five consecutive sessions without excuse as determined by the speaker, one- half of the monthly compensation of the member shall be forfeited. However if the a member fails to attend all sessions in any calendar month without excuse, provided that there are at least three sessions held in such calendar month, then such member shall forfeit his/her monthly compensation and may be denied of payment of compensation during the following months to achieve such forfeiture.

The LB further stated that each member of the Legislature shall be paid $25 for each day while attending legislative session provided that the compensation may be paid to members who do not attend session but are excused from attendance in advance for such session by the Speaker.

This proposed measure was passed by the members of KSL on their regular session on Sept. 29. This act shall become effective after signing by Gov. Adachi.
