The Docomos trailed the Buraots through most of the game, with the latter gaining a 10 point lead after the third quarter. The Docomos improved their chances of winning when Elmer Esdrelon landed a three pointer near the end of the game.
Buraot’s leading scorer Dave Sablan pushed his team a little farther after making an open lay up. With a final set of free throws from Docomo’s Jun Estolas and Buraot’s Jerome Reyes, both teams had no choice but to settle things in overtime.
Sablan and Angelo Fernando continued their onslaught against the Docomos, with both players earning a combined total of 13 points. Estolas managed to pop a few rounds, but his fellow team mates couldn’t get through the Buraots’ defense.
With a final push for the ball, Sablan and Fernando left the Docomos behind by five points. Sablan led the team with a total of 44 points while Docomo’s Estolas came in second with 41.
Ataligs edge IT&E, 68-66
Unlike the QQ Car Rental Basketball League’s first game last Friday, the Atalig-Atalig Associates were able to dodge overtime and defeat the IT&Es by 68-66.
All the Ataligs needed were a couple free throws from Jomar Tengco and Tom Santos to win. Both teams clashed in multiple deadlocks earlier in the game, resulting with a 51-51 tie during the third quarter. IT&E’s Jomar Tumaquip attempted to break the tie with a lay up but missed in the process.
While IT&E gained a four point lead back in the first quarter, the Ataligs retaliated during the second quarter, leaving their opponents behind by two points. Atalig’s Melvin Capalad livened up the court after making three successive two-pointers in the first half.
After fouling Atalig’s Von Tamayo on the defense, IT&E’s Marlon De Dios was shortly subbed out. De Dios later came back to the court, but was sent out again after making his fifth personal foul. Despite his absence in the last 20 seconds of the match, De Dios still earned the highest individual score with 15 points.
Wings Travel 79, Westerner 60
The Wings Travels pummeled the Westerners 79-60 in the QQ Car Rental Basketball League’s third game last Friday.
Wings Travel’s Tony Diaz led the team in the scores, where he shot for a total of 21 points during the game.
Diaz, accompanied by Brandon Talania, Bruce Berline and Dennis Morales, proved to be an unstoppable force on the court.
The Wings Travels dominated the Westerners throughout the game, with Diaz and Robert Guiang darting through the Westerners’ defense. Both players took turns making baskets during the third quarter, which ended with a three-pointer from Talania.
The Wings Travels established a solid 20 point lead by the final quarter, with Olaitiman still pushing to catch up. Diaz was fouled after driving two lay ups, giving him the chance to score two extra free throws.
While the Westerners struggled in the defense, Ed Yalung sealed the Wings Travels’ victory with a final jump shot.
