TANIA Tan added another win to her list of achievements this year by finishing first in the women’s 5000m event at the Last Chance Sprint Distance Series #2, held in Sherman Oaks, California, last Friday.
Tan completed the race with a time of 18:13.74.
Although she did not break any personal records or set new NMI records, she said winning a race is still a meaningful accomplishment.
“Every race and meet is different. In some races, there are a lot of people to help you [achieve a] PR, while other races feel more like a championship-style race — where placing matters more than hitting a PR or setting a national record,” said Tan in an interview with Variety.
“This one was definitely not a PR race, so I treated it more like a championship-style race, since I had a better chance of winning than setting a new PR,” she added.
Tan led the race from start to finish.
“There were simply fewer people who entered this race, and it was not as competitive, so I think that’s why I won,” Tan said.
