Grocers pummel Ataligs, 79-67

With Chris Lansang easily connecting his three-pointers, the Grocers knew they were off to a great start. Assisted

by Lansang, Eugene Mangali and Joel Javier darted through the Ataligs’ defense in the first half, boosting their team 14 points ahead.

When the Ataligs missed their shots early in the game, they knew they were in big trouble. Atalig’s Jomar Tengco tried to pick up the slack with a three-pointer, followed by a basket from Tom Santos.

By the second half, Grocers’ Lerio Pagarao had already stepped into the scene to do more damage. Pagarao’s constant shots destroyed the Ataligs’ chances of catching up in fourth quarter. Pagarao accumulated 15 points throughout the game, ranking him second to Grocers’ lead scorer, Eugene Mangali with 17 points.

With a reverse lay up from Pagarao, the Pacific Grocers had full control of the match.

Docomo 91, IT&E 78

AFTER a close match in the first three quarters, the IT&Es finally succumbed to the Docomo Pacifics during the QQ basketball league’s second game last Wednesday.

Winning by 91-78, the Docomos secured their lead in the start of the fourth quarter with Elmer Esdrelon hammering the basket for 16 points. Warming up with a couple of jumpers, Esdrelon proceeded to making his text book three-pointers. The Docomos immediately picked up speed as Ron Gamboa followed up with a one-handed lay up.

IT&E’s Marlon De Dios and Ivan De Vero had trouble getting through the Docomos’ defense, sneaking only a couple two-pointers in the last minutes of the game.

While Docomo’s Larry Sharry and Edwin Santos waited in the rebound, Esdrelon waited in the corner for a steal. In no time, the Docomos pushed for a 10-point lead with the help of Larry Sharry and Sam Fernandez.

The IT&Es briefly controlled the court in the first half, after a jumper from Ehroll Peredo. Santos and Esdrelon placed the Docomos ahead with the former piling nine points for the third quarter. Esdrelon produced the highest score of the night with 21 points.
