Municipal council honors Micro Games athletes

The two paged resolution, which congratulated team CNMI for their “valor, exemplary achievement, and magnanimous victory,” was given by Municipal Council chairman Ramon Blas Camacho to Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association president Michael White.

“I see the benefit in each and every one of us,” said Camacho. “The CNMI’s medals reflect the best we do on sports.”

Overall, the CNMI ranked second to Palau after hauling 92 medals made up of 44 gold, 23 silver, and 25 bronze. The CNMI participated in nine of the Micro Games’ events, which included athletics, baseball, basketball, canoe, spearfishing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and triathlon.

“It’s always great to have the support of the people of the CNMI,” said White, also CNMI Chef de Mission at the 2010 Micro Games.

Present in the ceremony were Saipan Little League Baseball Inc.’s Tony Rogolifoi, Saipan Major League Baseball Association president and vice president Rose Igitol and Bob Coldeen, along with seven other Micro Games athletes.

“We appreciate what the chairman did today on behalf of baseball. We hope that they continue to be supportive in all of the events. Not only do we represent ourselves, but we also represent the CNMI,” noted Igitol.

Micro Games top male athlete Rezne Wong, Mamiko Oshima-Berger, Yvonne and Yvette Bennett, Jeff Race, Jacque Wonenberg, Kailan Staal, Mieko Carey, and Jenequa Benavente were among the numerous individuals that excelled in Palau.
