With his two free throws, Island Apparel’s Rex Yabut had his chance to bring the game into overtime. Missing both shots and catching the rebound, the Island Apparels tried to land a jumper but missed again, losing by 90-89.
The Cavites started their lead in the first quarter, when JR Barrios and Roy Hernandez earned a combined total of 14 points. The Island Apparels stayed closely behind, with Manuel Matagolai and James Abuy making three-pointers.
Barrios snuck more lay ups past the Apparels during the second quarter but was fouled, giving him one free throw.
Alongside him in the Cavites’ offensive was James Villacrusis, who followed up with a few jumpers.
The game intensified in the second half, when the Island Apparels tied the scores with the help of Abuy and Matagolai. With a quick steal, Matagolai slammed a three-pointer that put the Apparels closer to victory.
The Cavites focused on the defense, waiting for time to run out in the fourth quarter. Fortunately for them, the Apparels couldn’t connect another basket to win the game. Barrios led his team with 29 points, while Matagolai came second with 27.
