She said the House will also invite the Senate to a public hearing that will discuss House Bill 17-53 as amended by the senators.
The bill will increase business license fees and taxes even though the economy continues to get worse.
Ogumoro said the House will expedite action on revenue-generating measures.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Ramon S. Basa, Covenant-Saipan, said there’s no question that the Legislature needs to find new revenues.
However, he added, they have to be very careful in doing so.
“We need to get an expert analysis before we even put [the bill] on the floor. And we need public hearings. That is my intention,” he said.
“Because if you look at many of the revenue generating measures they are designed to punish businesses,” he added.
