A statement from the Department of Public Safety said police responded to a robbery in progress at about 2 a.m.
Prior to the incident, while the security guard was locking the establishment’s main door he noticed two men in black clothing and wearing black masks attempting to open the main door.
The taller suspect who was armed with a rifle was shaking the door handle, the guard said.
The cashier on duty contacted the police after she saw the suspects on the video monitor.
After several attempts, the two fled on foot heading toward the north side of the building.
Police searched the immediate area including nearby residences, but failed to catch the suspects.
