Meat processing course draws more participants

About 130 have already enrolled in the nine-hour meat processing course offered by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in coordination with the Philippine Consulate General on Saipan.

Tayag and Labor Attaché Joan Lourdes Lavilla said the program is part of the Philippine government’s assistance to Filipino workers who would like to venture into business.

The meat processing course will be conducted by Fiesta Resort & Spa chef Hermie B. Coronejo at the Filipino Workers Resource Center at the Marianas Business Plaza for four Saturdays starting on Oct. 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For each session, Tayag said the class will accommodate at least 40 students.

Although it’s voluntary, Tayag encouraged participants to bring basic ingredients for the embutido (meatloaf), skinless chorizo (sausage), tocino (cured pork meat), asado and hamburger.

“This is a hands-on course, and the participants can bring back the ingredients and the food they cook in the class,” he said.

After the meat processing course, Tayag said he will conduct a lecture about starting a business and how to achieve its strategic goals and objectives.
