Toribiong asks for a consolidated list of Bangladeshi and Myanmar nationals in Palau

Last week, the president issued Executive Order No. 274 which will exclude Myanmar nationals and Bangladeshi nationals from entering Palau.

He said the list should be submitted by Oct. 23. He said there have been discrepancies in the numbers between the bureau and the division.

The list should include the name, nationality, birthdate, passport number and the number of the Palau visa issued to the person.

The bureau meanwhile was ordered to update the list each time a new visa is issued to a person holding a passport issued by an excluded country from Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The Division of Labor and the Bureau of Immigration has yet to submit the exact numbers of the Myanmar nationals and Bangladeshi nationals in Palau currently.

The list of nationals from excluded countries will then be provided to the Ministry of State, Bureau of Aviation, Bureau of Marine Transportation and to each commercial carrier that transports people into Palau.

The list will also be sent to governments of the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines and to any country from which a flight or vessel comes to Palau.

Bangladeshi citizens meanwhile holding working permits should also have a list and should list the name, nationality, birthdate, passport number, and the number of work permit issued to the person and the person’s employer.

The Division of Labor prior to the issuance of the executive order already has a regulation in place banning the entry of Bangladesh nationals into the country as workers because of the countries’ lack of diplomatic relationship with Palau and the cultural differences.
