Although it is not the first time that an MMA event was held in the government-run sports facility, Trench Tech promoter, Cuki Alvarez said in an interview yesterday that the Art of War 4 in which fights are limited only to grappling or submission, will be held in Ada Gym for the first time.
Alvarez recalled that the first Art of War was held two years ago in Garapan Central Park’s round house; the second one last year was at the Trench Tech Gym in San Antonio and the Art of War 3 a several months ago was held at the Fiesta Resort & Spa’s Hibiscus Hall.
He also said that Trench Warz III Mass Destruction was the first full-blown MMA event held in Ada Gym.
Alvarez said they decided to hold the succeeding MMA events in Saipan World Resort because aside from some restrictions, the gym has no air-condition units.
With regards to the grappling and submission event which Alvarez said is not as prestigious as the Trench Warz and Rites of Passage, the reason they landed in Ada Gym is that Fiesta Resort’s Hibiscus Hall is fully-booked.
Art of War 4 was initially scheduled for Oct. 10 but due to a lot of other sports events going on, they had to move it to Nov. 14.
The whole-day event will feature “No Gi” Jiu Jitsu fights from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets will be available soon at all Trench Warz Promotion outlets for $5.00.
Alvarez added that all interested fighters, men and women, can sign up anytime from Monday to Saturday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Trench Tech Gym in Afetnas.
A fee of $25.00 per competitor will be charged per weight class.
If five or more fighters sign up from any team, one of them will be free.
The organizers, Alvarez said are accepting players in the following weight categories and each will be vying for gold, silver, and bronze medals:
100lbs-130lbs – Bantam weight
131lbs-140lbs – Feather weight
141lbs-150lbs- Super light weight
151lbs to 160lbs – Light weight
161lbs to 180lbs – Welter weight
181lbs to 200lbs – Middle weight
201 and up – Heavy weight
