NMI volleyball groups urged to unite

NMIVA vice-president Gabriel White said during last month’s general membership meeting that they are ready to put in place a structure that will develop volleyball players.

However, “it will require the cooperation of all volleyball clubs and organizations coming together and working together.”

White noted that the organization is fortunate to accomplish a lot in the last five-years in terms of international exposure.

The success of Marianas Beach Volleyball Festival and the getting the assistance of FIVB, he said are among the remarkable accomplishments of NMI volleyball.

“We’ve had great response and participation with our various on-island events and we managed to participate in the 2006 MicroGames here in Saipan. It’s time to move our efforts to a new level; with an eye on developing players to be able to compete internationally,” White said.

Board members, Laurie Peterka is asking everyone to help to create a CNMI-wide volleyball program master development plan. They can send an email to [email protected].

After they got elected, the NMIVA board discussed the group’s development programs and came up with a plan to work with international federations on programs that will help NMI train the volleyball community for international competitions.

The new board that now includes Rep. Edward Salas and Public Auditor Mike Pai is now in the process of reviewing the applications for the Micro Games coaching selection. The board will soon provide an update to all the members.

The NMIVA will coordinate another coaching program like how the group did in August 2008 with the FIVB-certified coaching clinic.

NMIVA is the CNMI’s umbrella volleyball association covering all aspects of indoor and outdoor games and players.

The group is a bona fide current member of FIVB, AVC, OZVA and Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association.

All of the organization’s fundraisers put money into the development of volleyball in the CNMI. NMIVA encourages volleyball enthusiasts to become a member today for a mere $20 a year.

Members get email updates and discounts on all NMIVA-sanctioned volleyball events throughout the year. Join NMIVA on FaceBook or email [email protected] for more information.
