According to the certified election results provided by the Commonwealth Election Commission to the Variety yesterday, Republican Party’s Donald G. Flores topped the Saipan mayoral race by garnering 2,392 votes.
The Covenant Party’s Marianne DLG. Tudela received 1,620 votes while the Democratic Party’s Angelo O. Villagomez was just eight votes behind her. The environmental advocate got 1,612 votes.
The rest of the candidates ran as independents.
Former Education Board Chairman Roman C. Benavente placed fourth with 1,587 votes, while former Corrections Commissioner Lino S. Tenorio settled for fifth place receiving 1,527 votes.
Antonio M. Camacho got 571; Jose DLG Sanchez, 530; former Rep. Candido B. Taman, 420; and former Senate President Juan S. Demapan, 287.
The election commission’s Web site on Sunday had incorrect numbers that showed Villagomez trailing Benavente.
In an interview, CEC Executive Director Robert A. Guerrero said the unofficial figures posted on their Web site were subject to changes until the certification of the election results.
