With top scorer’s Francis Rebuyon and Jessie Mina’s absence, Star Water tried to hang on as they kept the two-point lead towards the end of the first half.
Robert Guiang and Rommel Quinitip led the rally in the third quarter to help the Archers edge Star Water.
Quinitip geared up in the fourth quarter basketing 10 of his 16 points; Rommel Usi added six of his 10 points and Noel David fired three-pointer to protect the lead and secured their 55-51 victory.
DL Cooking Gas 84, Olivos 70
Team Olivos forced an over time its members could hardly run to defend the court against the rampaging DL Cooking Gas.
The result: Victor Mallari, George De Guzman and Jun Galsote lambasted Olivos with two-pointers and ended the game in an exhausting 24-point victory.
Cooking Gas was leading by two-point in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter when Danny Dayrit fouled Buds Camacho.
Camacho sank his two penalty shots to tie the game and clamped on Cooking Gas offense to force an over time.
However, the Olivos squad members were too exhausted to push through. They tried but failed to stop Mallari and company from leaving them behind.
Mallari added six to his total points and Adonis Macoto fired three free throws to secure their 84-60 win.
