The theme for this year’s observation was “FSM Homes Free of Domestic Violence.”
All four FSM states hosted educational programs on domestic violence and the FSM national police wore white ribbons.
President Manny Mori signed a proclamation urging all residents of the FSM, both citizens and non-citizens alike, to observe and raise the social awareness of this issue and to prevent the proliferation of violence against women.
In the proclamation, Mori noted that over 30 years ago, the United Nations initiated a global awareness campaign toward preventing domestic violence directed against women.
The FSM, as a member nation, has always been in support of this initiative as an expression of its fundamental value, he said.
In the FSM, he added, there is an “unmistakable recognition of the indispensable role of women in our society and in individual families” and this day is set aside to recognize the crucial role played by women in modern society.
