Public Health program analyst Roxanne Diaz said that although it was the first activity of the Kung Flu Watch campaign for children since its recent re-launching, the event was a huge success.
“We are thankful to the community for the tremendous support that we got, especially to the families who brought their children who are our target for the campaign,” Diaz said.
She said the American Red Cross donated about a hundred hand sanitizers for the children.
“We distributed over 300 assorted campaign items to instill in the kids the importance of preventing the flu virus from spreading,” she said.
Diaz added that having a Kung Flu mascot helped a lot in drawing more kids to the event.
She said they had conducted similar campaigns in schools before to reach out to the target audience which are the kids, but financial constraints forced them to suspend the campaign.
“We will be going to the schools soon with the Kung Flu mascot to continue spreading awareness to the students,” Diaz said.
She added that they have started taking surveys on the educational awareness campaign for the Flu Watch on Wednesday.
“After six months, we will do another survey to monitor our progress on how we did for the campaign to the children,” she said.
Diaz again stressed the importance of following the Flu Watch steps to protect everybody from the seasonal flu or the 2009 H1N1 flu.
Diaz acknowledged the support of MCV, Saipan World Resort, the American Red Cross, Taro Leaf, Kung Flu volunteers and Public Health staff who helped at the booth on Wednesday.
The Flu Watch campaign is funded by the Department of Public Health, the Public Health and Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
MCV’s Kids4Kids Carnival featured children’s favorite shows like Dora the Explorer, Diego and Spongebob.
