The parent participants at Dandan Head Start Center decided to hold the class sessions twice a week for four weeks.
In doing so, the class sessions that usually lasted for eight weeks was completed within a month.
The course was completed last Oct. 29 with four participants receiving their certificates of completion for the Motheread training: Minerva Wabol-Mike, Roginia Banacia, Betty Koche, and Haydee Reyes.
Last, Oct. 31, at the Garapan Head Start center, 10 participants with their children, family, and friends gathered for a Motheread/Fatheread course closing ceremony.
The participants at this site were Lori Giner, Joy Legaspi, Tisha Ferrer, Catherine Torres, Michelle Guiang, Emtaaz Chowdhury, Israt Chowdhury, Kamiz Ferdous, Regie Rivera, and Gemma Cadag.
In both completion ceremonies, Viola Deleon Guerrero, Motheread program coordinator, gave a short remark, praising the noteworthy participation and involvement of the parents in school activities and programs.
She also assisted the Motheread trainer for both course sessions, Rhea Chong, in presenting the certificates to the participants.
The participants were given a tote bag, and three storybooks to compliment their collections at home.
Successful completion of the training will not be possible without the full support of the CNMI Head Start Program, its staff, teachers, and administrators.
The Head start program opens its centers as a venue to hold the Motheread course training.
In addition, staff and teachers are also close at hand to give assistance support to the Motheread trainers as necessary.
This partnership, and the commitment to deliver high quality services to the clients that they are serving, is the key factor that results in a high number of participants completing the training.
The Head Start director, Keiko Yamagata, herself, makes it a point to be present at each Motheread course completion to congratulate the parent participants and give encouragement to continue to involve themselves in their child’s school activities and program.
The Motheread program is a nationally acclaimed family literacy program sponsored by the NMI Council of the Humanities in partnership with Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, the Public School System, and other generous donors.
