Overall program in-charge Candice Dunston of the American Red Cross said, as of Friday, they had received 60 names and addresses of servicemembers deployed off-island.
“We are asking families and relatives to give us the names and addresses of servicemembers that are deployed until Nov. 21 (Friday),” Dunston said.
The goods donated by the community for the deployed servicemembers will be ready for shipment on Nov. 28 at the Army Reserve Center in Puerto Rico.
“So far the donations have been coconut chips, Spam, knitted hats, floss and toothbrushes, pre-paid phone cards, T-shirts, magazines, student letters and donated postage for the mailing,” Dunston said.
She said they are still hoping to receive additional donations.
Program organizer Geri Willis earlier said sending the care packages to the troops abroad will remind servicemembers that their loved ones are thinking about them.
The community can continue donating items at Joeten Susupe, Triple J Super Fresh Market, Price Costco and Fleming’s Store on Tinian.
Last year, the Operation Homefront Support was able to send 250 care packages to the deployed troops.
The American Red Cross-NMI Chapter and the Rotary Club of Saipan are also partners in the program.
