CUC to disconnect water supply of delinquent customers

He said some customers complained about “overcharging” but when checked by CUC, they actually had leaking pipes and didn’t bother to fix them.

“We can’t afford to waste our water,” he added.

According to Male, CUC is willing to help customers fix their water meters and connections.

But CUC deputy director for water and wastewater utilities Bruce Megarr said they will charge $60 for the inspection.

If CUC discovers a fault in the meter they will immediately change it.

“We have to stay and fix it until the water investigation is resolved,” he added.

But, in most cases, he said customers complain about “overcharging” when they actually consume the exact volume of water as reflected in the meter.

The problem, he added, is a leak in the connection.

He said if a customer will question the reliability of his meter, CUC will examine it, but if there’s no defect, the customer cannot demand to change the meter or not  pay the water bill.

Each household is consuming at least 6,000 gallons a month but this  is exceeded because of the unattended leaks, Megarr said.
