He said they would also like Eileen Kintol to retain her position as consul to Saipan when the office is re-opened.
”Eileen would be best in the position because she has already the experience and understands the concerns of the Palauan community,” said Aguon, the president of the Palauan community.
He said they still want Palauan officials to regularly visit the CNMI even if the consulate is re-opened.
Aguon at the same time expressed appreciation to the recent visit of Palau President Johnson Toribiong, saying it gave hope to the Palauans in the commonwealth.
During the recent visit of their president, Aguon said they were informed about the current programs and situation in their homeland.
He said the president assured them he will be working closely with their group.
Toribuong, who was here for the inauguration of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial last week, assured the Palauan community that he would reopen the consulate on Saipan.
Aguon said they are eagerly awaiting the reopening of the consulate which was closed on Dec. 31, due to lack of funds.
Toribiong said his administration was able to secure financial support from the federal government to fund the re-opening of the consulate.
