And when these two power house teams and unexpectedly, the Hoopaholics, beat them in the regular season, the Prospects vowed they have three teams to get back at.
The Prospects’ road to sweet revenge started with the Hoopaholics in the quarter finals, then, with the Advance Xterminators in the semis that was punctuated with heavy rains last week.
Raymond Cadagat, Ehrol Peredo and the Prospects finally got back at the New Fresh Ol’ Aces with 75-68 victory in Game 1 of the champions series last Friday.
The Prospects capped their revenge last Monday with Ryan Sanciangco coming in late in the fourth quarter to hand them a three-point victory for the Unified Basketball Association Men’s League championship crown.
Cadagat fired his first three-pointer and Peredo poured-in his eighth to put up the lead in the first quarter.
Darwin Barbo surged in the second quarter hitting eight markers including three bonuses to widen the gap.
But from the nine-point deficit, the New Fresh Ol’ Aces rallied to take the lead with Jack Lizama dominating the defensive rebound and bombarded the Prospects with 14 of his 22 points in the third quarter.
Dan Barcinas also completed two fast breaks in the last few minutes of this period and the Ol’ Aces had the momentum back in their hands.
Romeo Iginoef charged the basket from the left side, in the opening of the fourth quarter and repeated it twice. Barcinas hit a three and the Ol’ Aces protected their lead in the first two minutes of the final quarter.
Derrick Aughenbaugh burst in defense and barreled all the way to the basket. The second time around, he ran over two defenders before firing his second two-pointer that brought the Prospects back to the upper ground.
Quincy Johnson had to handle the ball for Cadagat and managed to keep the offense under strong pressure.
Ryan Sanciangco who did not see enough action in the first half surfaced in the last few minutes of the game and picked up where every body left off.
He basketed his two free throws, completed a steal and connected a three-point play with 29 seconds left in the ball game.
Barbo made his second free throw, with 19 seconds remaining.
Jose Tumaquip’s attempt to tie the game from outside the three-point line fell short, Gabriel White got the second chance two seconds to the buzzer but he missed.
“For you dad,” says playing coach, Perry Jr. as he handed the championship trophy to his dad, Judge Perry Inos during the photo ops.
