Taiwan pledges $300,000 to quake-hit Solomons

Ben Wang of the Taiwan Embassy paid a courtesy call Dr. Derek Sikua, prime minister of Solomon Islands on Jan. 8.

He said on behalf of people and government of Taiwan, he extended his deepest condolences and sympathy to the people and families in the affected areas.

Wang said the pain people felt at the moment caused by the natural disaster was shared by his my government and people.

“Because we know very well the feeling and terrible experiences as Taiwan was devastated by typhoon Morakot last August,” he added.

“We really appreciate various assistances and condolences from people and government of Solomon Islands during our difficult time last year. To demonstrate our traditional friendship and close relations between our two countries, Taiwan government would therefore like to provide humanitarian donation as earthquake relief effort.”
