“Last year was not a good year for us but we are hoping that everything will be fine from January to March,” said Primo Surf’s management.
The store, which sells clothes and accessories, opened in 1997.
Its management said the store was “in good shape until 2001 when tourist arrivals started going down.”
At that time, the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were one of the primary reasons why the number of tourists plummeted.
Last year, Primo Surf management said the H1N1 virus and the global economic slump further weakened tourist arrivals.
“Every year since 2001, our business has continuously weakened, but this year, we are not expecting that to happen.”
ABC Store’s management said last year was “not too good.”
But the store said it will “work on making things better for the new year.”
Local businesses expect tourist arrivals to increase, at least for the first three months of this year.
ABC Store’s management team is hoping to “be in good shape until March.”
“The first three months are peak seasons and we consider that good times for our shop,” the management said.
But the store does not know what will happen after March.
According to store managers interviewed by this reporter, they experienced the “worst” in October of last year.
The management of Muse Import Gallery, another clothing and accessory shop, said it is confident that this year will be better than 2009.
“Last year was so bad, but [we] will do our best to make our business strategies good this year.”
